Stepping Stones
- Write down how you feel. Include everything you would like to have said but didn't.
- Continue expressing your feelings over-and-over until you feel emptied. Doing this helps you overcome post-traumatic stress, begin to heal, and stop feeling victimized
- Employ the basic principle of cause and effect; curiously test the waters to see what works and what does not
- Refuse to give up: don't panic; take action
- Concentrate on one task at a time

Learning to Cope
We move forward as we apply a more rational manner of thought. While there are still moments, even days, when our emotions seem to overpower our will, we keep on going: one step at a time.
Now is the time to ask, What do I have to do to get through this? Choose an activity and complete it to the best of your ability: prepare a resume; make a call to an employer; pick up a course catalogue. Anticipate handling situations well. If you don't, expect to learn something. After each meeting, pause to reflect on what has happened. Imagine yourself doing a little better next time. Repeat the process over and over. As your ability to succeed rises, you will regain confidence in yourself.
